American Idol and Jambalaya
May 20, 2009
I haven’t paid much attention to American Idol since its first year, but for some reason (Ruben) I got hooked on the show this season. Wednesday evening, the competition came to an end with a big show, full of stars (Santana, Cyndi Lauper, Queen, KISS, Black Eyed Peas, etc…).
I wasn’t surprised that Kris Allen won. This is supposed to be a singing competition, but it’s more of a personality contest. I knew Kris would win the show because he’d carry the votes of the tweens and soccer moms who watch the show.
Kris is good, and I’m happy he won, but my favorite to win was Adam Lambert. Yeah, I know he was a little too flamboyant for mainstream American, so I guess I should be pleasantly surprised that he got second place. A few weeks ago, pictures surfaced on the Internet of Adam kissing a guy! Adam finally came out and most of this “news” was kept rather low-key. I am not surprised FOX news didn’t say much about it because…well….American Idol is a FOX show. Hmmmm.
Anyway, despite who/what Adam is, I enjoyed his performances this season and even bought his rendition of Mad World from iTunes [-link-]

Let’s Eat!
As we were watching the end of the season, we invited Mike and Tom over to the house for dinner. I decided to use the leftover crawfish from my recent birthday party to make a jambalaya. Since Mike had helped me peel all those leftover mudbugs, I thought he deserved to reap the rewards of his efforts. After dinner (and watching American Idol) we played a couple of hands of UNO.
