PIXAR’s Up
May 27, 2009
For the past few years, folks from my department (and friends) have had access to prescreenings of feature animated films from DreamWorks. This week, we finally got the same deal for a PIXAR film. Margaret managed to get about 100 free tickets for a prescreening of Up. The only catch…we had to drive to Houston to see it.
In the middle of the week, Ruben and I joined Margaret and her kids on a little road trip to the Marq-E Entertainment Center. Margaret’s kids are adorable and fun to interact with. The journey itself was entertaining.

A Great Film
In my opinion, Up was better than Wall-E. PIXAR, once again, maintained their reputation for delivering a good story with well-developed characters. As always, when we see one of these films, we (Viz-Lab-Folk) stay to watch the credits. It’s fun spotting all the names of former students who made their way from the Lab and into the CG film industry. To my surprise, three of the lead positions on the film were former students (that’s a big deal).

Future Movie Makers
To the right, I ‘m pictured with some of our current students who met us at the theater to watch the film. BTW: Most of these Vizzers will (one day) have their names listed in the credits. I can’t help feeling proud when I watch them succeed. Over the years it’s been fun to see them develop their skills and then make their mark in the CG industry.

How NICE LOL ‘-)
I second that “How NICE” and follow that up with a “You can’t call people when you are right around the corner from their house?”
Anywho… Congrats to all your students and for all the support you give them.
Thanks Carl, I promise I’ll remember if we’re screening a movie at that complex. This really was a last minute decision to go.
