Houston Pride 2009

June 27, 2009

Why Pride?…Why June?

Back in 1969, on a hot June evening in New York, police raided a gay bar called the Stonewall Inn.  During that time in American history, it was typical for the police to conduct “fag-bar” raids. Patrons usually took the abuse, but on June 27, 1969 the queens at Stonewall had enough. To the surprise of the police, they fought back. What became known as the Stonewall Riots sparked the beginning of the modern gay liberation movement.  Since then, Pride Events are held across the country to commemorate that day, keep the momentum for equality going, and just have fun!

On June 27, 2009, Ruben, Glenn and I headed to Houston to celebrate Pride with our Friend, David and his partner, Brad.  BTW: Brad just happens to be the president of Houston Pride.  As his guests, we enjoyed viewing the parade from the VIP stands.  Thanks Brad!

We had a blast that night, click on one of the pictures below.  Use your arrow-keys to browse the gallery, or click the little play button to start the slideshow.

Also the one titled “David and Friends,” if it’s not a bother.
