Jasper was the BEST dog

“Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really.” - Carlotta Monterey O’Neill
Late Friday evening, my dog, Jasper began acting very lethargic. Ruben and I had never seen him so “out of it” before. As the night progressed his breathing become more and more labored. We made him as comfortable as we could, hoping whatever was wrong with him would pass. Around 2:00am his conditioned worsened. By 3:00 I decided to take him to TAMU’s Small Animal Emergency Clinic.
Deep down inside, I knew the outcome would not be good, but the optimist in me thought maybe there was something that could be done to help him. After taking X-rays, an ultrasound, and a round of blood work, the veterinarian determined that a mass (probably cancerous) had ruptured in Jasper’s abdomen. As a result, of the internal hemorrhaging his organs were quickly failing. At this point, he was very weak and could not even hold up his head. I only had two choices – emergency surgery (with no guarantee), or end his suffering. With a heavy heart, I chose to have Jasper put down.

Saying Good Bye Again
Last September, I had to have Jasmine put down when she lost her battle with cancer. Now less than a year later I was having to go through the same painful experience with Jasper. I know I made the right decision, but I will really miss him. Of all the dogs I’ve had in my life, Jasper was the best.

Lamon and I will have you in our thoughts. Losing a “child” as dog owners call it is not fun. I’ll always remember Jasper’s enthusiasm for visitors and his excitement about anything that made a red dot that he could chase. He was a great dog and was lucky to have someone as great as you for his parent.

Severn and I will keep you in our prayers.

Glen, I’m very sorry to read that you lost Jasper. I know that you’re heart broken, but I also know that you didn’t want to see him suffer.
Thanks to everyone who contacted me to offer some emotional support during this time.
So sorry to read this post… I remember some funny times walking Jasper and Jasmine and Noodle. I know how much he meant to you and I know you will miss him deeply. Our thoughts are with you. Jeremy and Joshua
Damian and I are sooo sorry about your pup. You are definitely in our thoughts and prayers.
I hate to hear this news. I know (and from an eerily similar event on New Year’s Day) just how hard this is when you lose one of your four legged relatives. My thoughts are with you and Ruben (he can’t help but feel the hurt also) and with Ginger and Tucker. Mitakuye oyas’in, Rick.
We are both so very sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts are with you all.
So sorry to hear this…Jasper was one of a kind. You are in my thoughts.
I cried when I read the news. I am so sorry. Let us know if we can do anything.
He will be missed. I think dogs, like children, are reflections of their owners and Jasper was a wonderful friend.
You are in my thoughts. Jasper was a great dog. You were lucky to have him. And he was lucky to have you and be part of your family. If you need anything, I am here for you, friend. XOXO
