The Viz Virus
June 11, 2009
When the recent swine-flu pandemic became big news, I believed everyone started overreacting. The university canceled all business travel to Mexico, and most public areas on campus were plastered with flu-prevention propaganda.

Lab Closed
In a recent entry, I mentioned that our students are busy working with professionals from Disney Animation Studios during our summer animation course. This week, all that activity came to a screeching halt. When the semester began, one of our students started experiencing flu-like symptoms. Within days, more and more students started getting ill. To be on the safe-side, classes were canceled for a couple of days, and the lab was disinfected. To make sure students stayed at home, we locked the lab doors. This may seem odd, but a lot of our students are overachievers. Taking a break from a project can be unthinkable for some of them, but we had to make sure they stayed away from the lab.

Empty the Lab, Make T-Shirts
Of course someone couldn’t let this moment pass without having a little fun with it. My graduate assistant, Bobby, decided to make T-shirt.

It’s all Baron Von Bad’s fault! He told us Swine Flu was to come as his next big plan (and even laughed about it), but he will fail as Viz Force Five prevails once again!
Well it should be closed for Viz’s wild mindset and liberal thinking. You could infect the whole campus by opening their minds which would be the end of A&M as we know it. The swine flu is the least of the worries. That can be cured. The whole mindset of wanting a “mind opened by wonder rather than closed by faith” has to be curbed.
