SIGGRAPH 2009 – days 1 and 2
August 2-3, 2009
Early Sunday morning I boarded a bus along with other staff and students from our department. Before the sun came up, we were on our way to New Orleans to spend the week attending SIGGRAPH 2009, About 20,000 computer-graphic-visual-professionals and artists from around the world made their way to this CG-Mecca-event. The journey there was a lot of fun.

- During our first afternoon in New Orleans, Margaret and I attended Drag Queen Bingo at OZ
- Garret was one of several Vizzers working at the conference as a student volunteer
- Some of our faculty members worked on an immersive system they demonstrated at SIGGRAPH
- Most of our first day was spent at the Algiers Technical Academy
- In cooperation with SIGGRAPH outreach, Dreamworks, Disney, Nvidea, and other companies put together a CG lab for a New Orleans inner-city school

- While finalizing all the details for our department reception, Margaret and I got a special tour of the House of Blues. This stairwell contains a list of all the sold-out shows

- During the second day of the conference, a few of us gathered at Mother’s for lunch
- In the front center of this photo you’ll see Jess, friend, former student and one of the best graduate assistants we ever had.
- The first social event of the conference took place on the second night. Watching geeks dance is always amusing.
- On the way back to the hotel, Margaret and I stopped at Harrahs Casino – ten minutes, ten bucks, and I was done.
