A Night of Pool

A Night of Pool

July 16, 2010 Saturday evening, Ruben and I spent a couple of hours with Vann and Liz playing pool. Well, I should say we “tried” to play pool. Van knew what he was doing, but the rest of us didn’t. Half of the shots we made were intentional, and the other half was pure luck. But who cares, the important thing is that we had fun . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .... [Read more]

The Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo

July 10, 2010 Early Saturday morning (5:30AM), Ruben, Liz, and I made our way to Houston to meet Elsa. The purpose of our trip was to give Elsa, Ruben and Liz the opportunity to visit some of their family (who had been traveling from Florida to South Texas). Following their family rendezvous, the four of us met Vann at the Houston Zoo. We spent the rest of a VERY HOT summer’s day looking... [Read more]

The 4th of July 2010

The 4th of July 2010

July 4, 2010 On the 4th, Ruben and I celebrated Independence Day with friends and family at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The celebration began with a flyover of F-16s followed by several musical performances. Mike and Tom coordinated our pot-luck buffet. There was plenty of good eating…..maybe a little too much. The celebration concluded with a performance by the Brazos Valley... [Read more]

A Summertime Party

A Summertime Party

June 27, 2010 Sunday afternoon, Ruben and I accompanied Glenn to a backyard party hosted by James and David. There was no occasion for the party. It was simply an event for friends to gather and have some summertime fun. We had plenty of laughs visiting with James and JC. Yes, it was a HOT day but tolerable in the shade. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .... [Read more]

Afterward, some of us continued the celebration at Chris and Brian’s home. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .... [Read more]

My iPhone4

My iPhone4

June 24, 2010 On the morning of the 15th, I was one of the lucky gadget-geeks to preorder the iPhone4. The demand for this new phone exceeded everyone’s expectations. Before the day was over all preorders were filled. On the 24th, my new little gizmo finally arrived….BUT…AT&T had trouble keeping up with so many people wanting to activate their new phones. It took 12 hours and two phone... [Read more]

DreamWorks Summer Animation Course

DreamWorks Summer Animation Course

June 7 – 23, 2010 There’s no summer “down time” in my department. During the summer sessions, our students participate in an industry-animation-course. The Department of Visualization collaborates with one of the leading animation studios to give the students a condensed “real-world” production experience. This year, students taking the Summer Industry Course (VIZA 627)... [Read more]

Ballast, Grass, and Water

Ballast, Grass, and Water

May 1 – June 23, 2010 For the past two month, I’ve spent several evenings working on my model railroad. In the last update, I showed how Ruben and I painted the terrain. Since then, I completed the track installation and made several tweaks to insure the locomotives could make a smooth journey through the layout. The next step involved adding ballast to the tracks. I mixed various... [Read more]
