My Foundation

img_9193I grew up in a Christian home in a rural part of central Texas. Most of the activities and events I participated in during my youth were linked to my family’s involvement with church.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald, Texas was founded, in part, by my great-great-grandfather. My grandparents were married there, and so were my parents.

When I left home to go to college, I decided to pursue a career in the ministry. I became a youth minister and worked with a couple of churches in North/Central Texas. It was during this time that I realized that just because I do believe, and care for others, did not mean that I was called to the ministry. In the eyes of some, clergy are “supposed to care.” When you’re just a fellow human who cares, I learned your efforts to help can (sometimes) mean more to those in need.
