Once again, students worked around the clock at the Viz Lab to finish their animation and video projects for the end-of-semester fall-shows. Wednesday evening we showcased the work of the undergraduate students. Before the animation show began, I was totally surprised when I was presented with my twenty-year-service-pin. Seriously, I was surprised. My first reaction/thought was “it can’t be twenty-years….I’m not that old!”

October 14, 2011 “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” – Confucius I know I consider myself lucky and blessed to have a job I enjoy going to every day. Sometimes it seems like non-stop chaos trying to support the tech needs of faculty and [...]

August 9, 2011 Like all SIGGRAPH conferences, this one was another exercise in information overload. There is no way one person can take in everything this conference has to offer…but we always try. Tuesday we attended more presentations and explored the exhibition floor where software and hardware company’s show off their latest innovations. That evening, [...]

May 2-7, 2011 Over the years, the number of students I help support has grown, especially when the Visualization Program became its own department. To be honest, I like all the chaos because there’s never a dull moment. The VIST Show (undergrad) and Viz-a-gogo (graduate) are important events for the students. Prior to the screening, [...]

April 7, 2011 I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with some talented students who have left Aggieland to do some amazing things. Sometimes they return to recruit and/or visit with our current students. That’s what happened this week, when former Vizzers, Eric Andraos and Jake Brooks returned to the lab. Eric was recently sets-and-materials [...]

April 1, 2011 During the 2009 football season, I began taking gigapixel panoramic photos of games at Kyle Field. The images posted on AggieAthletics.com became very popular. My department supported this little PR project and I shot the 2010 season with a much better panoramic camera system. On the first of April, my department played [...]

August 31, 2010 There were a lot of mixed emotions on campus as the beginning of the fall semester approached.  Texas A&M  (like other state institutions) was ordered to trim its budget by 10% (with more cuts to come).  Sad to say several individuals (mostly staff and non-tenured faculty) were laid off, and the layoffs [...]

July 25-30, 2010 I spent the last week of July with fellow TAMU staff, faculty, and students at SIGGRAPH 2010 in Las Angeles, CA.  SIGGRAPH is the annual conference on computer graphics convened by the ACM SIGGRAPH organization.  Thousands of CG artists, researchers, developers and producers gather for this conference. FYI: SIGGRAPH is short for [...]
