As soon as the last day of final exams came to an end, Aggieland turned into a ghost town (it happens every year). It’s nice at first, but it doesn’t take me long to miss the students. During this little quiet time, Ruben and I did much of nothing. This in-between-time was pleasantly interrupted by a visit from an old friend. Brian (TAMU graduate and mutual friend with Glenn) was back in town interviewing for a job on campus. He came by the house a couple of times to cook and celebrate Christmas with Glenn, Ruben, and myself.

This past Christmas, I helped Ruben get his own DSLR camera. He’s assisted me on several photo-shoots, and I guess he got bitten by the shutter-bug. He’s been contemplating the idea of getting his own DSLR for months now and this past Christmas seemed like the perfect opportunity to get one. Lately, when we both need a break (and the weather is nice) we’ll take our cameras out and spend a couple of hours driving around, looking for places and things to photograph. For the moment, Ruben’s favorite subjects are the dogs.

Saturday, Ruben’s Tucker and Glenn’s Milo became one-year-olds. Of course we had to celebrate. That evening, Glenn brought Milo to the house along with an old (mutual) friend of ours, Josiah. He’s a fellow photography geek, so we spent plenty of time talking about cameras.

It was a zoo that night at the house with four dogs running about. *sigh* Those two little pups Glenn and Ruben brought back to College Station grew up fast.

For the past seven months, Ruben and I have enjoyed spending time with Tucker. Yes, this huge monster is just a seven-month-old puppy. Recently, we noticed that he was having trouble standing up and when he tried to run, he seemed to hop instead. Realizing that something was wrong, Ruben took him to the veterinarian , and was informed that Tucker has hip dysplasia. The ball and socket joints in Tucker’s hips did not grow at uniform rates. The veterinarian recommend surgery, but doing so could cost as much as $6,000. At this point, Ruben is doing his research, and contemplating the practicality of such a costly prodeedure (something he can’t afford)…..poor Tucker……poor Ruben.

A few months ago, College Station opened a new, huge, dog park. Glenn had taken Milo there a couple of times and invited Ruben and me for a day at the park with our dogs. As soon as we got there, I thought this place would be a great location for a geocache, so I pulled out my iPhone to see if there was one nearby and I was right! So a great afternoon at the dog park was topped off with a great geocache discovery.

My friend, Rob warned me that Tucker would soon be entering a chewing phase, and he was right.  Ruben bought more toys and ropes to help keep Tucker occupied but unfortunately some of the furniture is showing Labrador-puppy-battle-scars.

Puppies grow up too fast. It seems like Tucker grows an inch a day, or more. I’m glad Jasper and Ginger get along well with him but poor Ginger is experiencing Karma. When she was a pup, she tortured Jasmine, and now Tucker is returning the favor ten fold.  *sigh*  I miss Jasmine.
