Since I didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving day with my parent, I drove down to see them the following day to take part in our other holiday tradition, geocaching. With my iPhone and GPS receiver at the ready, we explored areas in the North-Waco area for hidden treasures. We had a lot of fun finding eleven caches that day. Like every geocaching adventure, we found some interesting spots we never knew existed.

December 23-26, 2009

On the 23rd, I headed home to celebrate Christmas with my mom’s side of the family. Most of us were there this year, with the exception of, my cousin, Kristie’s family. They were making the long drive North to Missouri, but thanks to technology (like the iphone) they were still with us in a virtual way. That night, we ate well, had plenty of laughs and then played several rounds of bingo for (potentially) big cash prizes – lotto tickets. The next day, it looked and felt like Christmas as the temperatures dropped and snow started to fall (none of it stuck). That evening, I accompanied my parents to the candlelight Christmas Eve service at their church. Following that, we headed to Waco to celebrate with my dad’s side of the family. Christmas morning was spent with my parents, sister and her family. This year, I surprised my parents with a unique gift. I hid a miniature geocache in the house and gave them instructions on how to find it. Once they did, they had to open the cache and select one of the following as their Christmas gift – a trip to Washington DC, a trip to Denver Colorado, a new laptop with two years of 3G wireless, or new living room furniture. A few days later, they decided to take the furniture. BTW: This covers every gift (birthdays, mother’s day, etc…) for the next two years.

Thanksgiving always starts a few days early with a special evening service at my church.  We gather, give thanks, and then share a huge potluck meal.  Thus begins the holiday of eating.  A few days later, Thanksgiving Day arrived and I headed home to central Texas to spend a couple of days with my family.  Besides visiting, watching the Aggie-Longhorn game, and eating, my parents and I did our traditional geocache hunting expedition.  This year, we headed to Ennis and I brought Ginger along for the adventure.

The day before Father’s Day, I drove to central Texas to spend a busy Saturday with my family.  The first event of the day was a birthday celebration held in Hillsboro for my Great-Aunt, Josie.  Soon afterward, my parents and I explored the area around Hillsboro while hunting geocaches.  I’m glad my parents enjoy this hobby as much as I do.  It’s become a tradition of ours.  Every time I come home, we have to go geocaching.  My mom is very competitive and always tries to be the first one to spot the cache.  Following an afternoon of geocaching, we made our way to my sister’s home to celebrate Father’s Day.  Before we ate, I noticed that the conditions were perfect for deploying my kite-camera rig (I always keep it in my car…just in case).  Our day together concluded with us enjoying some of my sister’s great cooking.  Eventually I made my way back to College Station.  I had three dogs waiting for me.  While Ruben and his sisters were visiting their father in South Texas, I was keeping Ruben’s Sister’s dog, Kyro.
