Teaching the digital photography course (ARTS-310) has become a labor of love. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love the art of photography. Teaching this course has only fueled my passion for the medium. The more I teach, the more I learn. The students keep me on my toes and I’ve enjoyed the challenge. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the students who took the spring-section of ARTS-310.
April 7, 2011 I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with some talented students who have left Aggieland to do some amazing things. Sometimes they return to recruit and/or visit with our current students. That’s what happened this week, when former Vizzers, Eric Andraos and Jake Brooks returned to the lab. Eric was recently sets-and-materials [...]
January 18, 2011 The middle of January marked the beginning of the spring semester at TAMU, and shortly before it began I was asked to teach another section of ARTS-310. There is definitely a demand for this course. The class was full long before the semester began. During the process of developing this course (and [...]
December 10, 2010 The middle of December marked the end of another fall semester, and my first as “faculty of record” for ARTS-310. Yes, it was a lot of work and at times a bit time consuming, but I really enjoyed teaching this digital-photography course. Over the years, I’ve worked one-on-one advising students, giving presentations [...]
July 25-30, 2010 I spent the last week of July with fellow TAMU staff, faculty, and students at SIGGRAPH 2010 in Las Angeles, CA. SIGGRAPH is the annual conference on computer graphics convened by the ACM SIGGRAPH organization. Thousands of CG artists, researchers, developers and producers gather for this conference. FYI: SIGGRAPH is short for [...]
May 12, 2010 The best thing about my job – meeting and working with really great people. The worst thing about my job – saying goodbye to really great people. I don’t know what it is about the Viz Department (maybe it’s the geek factor) but most of the students I interact with I consider [...]
May 3-8, 2010 Over the years, the number of students I help support has grown, especially when the Visualization Program became its own department. To be honest, I like all the chaos because there’s never a dull moment. The madness seems to peak at the end of each semester and spring-2010 was the craziest one [...]
December 9-11, 2009
Throughout the semester, I’ve been pushing the idea that our students should start producing video and animated work at resolution levels within the currently established “high definition” standards.
