Years ago (decades) a group of faculty at Texas A&M began the process (battle) of bringing an art-based curriculum to a school with deep roots in agriculture and engineering. These determined educators were often met with arguments like…” If anyone wanted to learn about art, they needed go to that other school in Austin.” The agriculture and engineering programs are among the best in the world…something to be proud of…they’re what the “A” and “M” stand for. However, realizing that Texas A&M has to be more, the state and university leadership over the years have expanded the learning and research opportunities (without sacrificing quality) to an ever growing and diverse student population. As of November of 2011, the Master of Fine Arts in Visualization degree overcame its last hurdle and was approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board. To celebrate this momentous event, a small group of faculty, staff, and students gathered for a very informal (un-official) celebration at Northgate.

February 5, 2010 On a cold Friday afternoon, Bobby (my grad-assistant) and I hauled a lot of A/V gear to Downtown Bryan for Art Step. This event is an expanded version of the monthly First Friday art experience held in Downtown Bryan. The Department of Visualization had a presence at February’s Art Step by showcasing [...]

Last month, I posted an entry about a project I was working on with the Athletic Department. The results of my work were finally put online this week.
September 19 and 26, 2009
Back in February of this year, I acquired a camera system that I believed my department could use in collaboration with the Athletic Department to produce a fun interactive visual record of our home football games.

The final week of August was spent doing non-stop preparation work for the begining of yet another academic year. The 28th and 29th marked VizCamp, an orientation session for our incoming first-years.
